4 Tools I’m using to organize my house + my mind this Fall

organize your home and de-clutter this fall, new year fresh start

Well summer is on its way out and Fall is coming to stay for a bit. I love this time of year- chilly mornings, chai lattes, cozy fires at night and getting a fresh new agenda planner to “be more productive”! I guess I will forever be on the school schedule where the start of the year is always in the fall. It’s good, it feels like the right cycle for me (plus my hubby works in education and goes back each Fall to start a fresh new year).

Here are 4 tools I’m excited to use to help me organize my home and clear my mind in preparation for the next seasonal change…

Do you need a Digital Detox?

digital detox, wellness, mindfulness, how to be present, unplug
I recently had to replace the screen on my cell phone which required me to leave it at the Apple store for a whole hour. They told me to come back at 5:15pm. No problem I thought- I would just wander round the mall. Holy cow was that hard! First of all, I had no idea what time it was because I use my phone as a watch, second I probably reached for that thing like 20 times out of sheer habit knowing full well that it was not with me and third I had this odd feeling of being cut off. Cut off from what? I decided it was time to seriously take inventory of how I am using technology in my life.

This year in themes. Why I don’t make New Years resolutions

New mama wellness, January cleanse, detox
Traditionally, Aaron and I have always set goals for the new year. When we make our pilgrimage back to the East coast to spend the last 2 weeks of December with our families and friends we have LOTS of time in the car. It’s when we do our best dreaming. It’s usually on the drive back to Albany from Syracuse after a whirlwind of presents, Italian food and family time that we start chatting about all the things we want to accomplish in the coming year. We are both fortunate to have big loving families but the holidays are always crammed tight with so much eating, socializing, eating, gift giving, drinking, socializing, eating, sitting, talking, eating (you get the point) that naturally our goal setting chats usually revolve around simplifying life and practicing moderation.

3 Things I wish clients knew about the work I do

new mama wellness, behavior change
I love accompanying people on their journey to making lifestyle changes. I love seeing the potential in my clients when they don’t always see it themselves. I love that coaching others helps me in my own life, to be better, to change perspective and to value the preciousness of life. We all have the right to live a fulfilling life and sometimes we forget that. My role as a Wellness Coach is to partner with my clients and guide them in their pursuit of transformation (if you have never heard of a wellness coach check out this article). Sometimes a client wants to lose weight, other times its a mama who is trying to re-invent herself as a stay at home parent, and most times its people wanting to feel purpose in their life. In all cases though, clients want to be doing or feeling differently than they do when they begin working with me. I’ve noticed that there are a few assumptions that people may have when deciding to work with a coach and these assumptions can set people up for unnecessary failure.

Its Now or Never

The New Year is always a time for reflection and renewal. With the start of a new year come new intentions and goals. 2014 brought so many life changes for me- I became a mother, a homeowner and also became unemployed. Motherhood has been nothing less than incredible- literally you would not believe all the changes to your body, heart and perspective. Although having a new baby is a wonderful, mind-blowing and miraculous gift-  it wasn’t a seamless transition Continue reading
