3 Tips for keeping a journal

journal, free write, writing, self reflection, new mama wellness

I’ve been writing in a journal since first grade. I have documented aspects of my life since I knew how to write. It’s an amazing practice even if I didn’t realize how powerful it is until now. Being able to look back and read my thoughts from different points in my life has been so enlightening. Continue reading

How to date your husband

February is the month of love (well that’s what the marketers tell us with all the Valentine’s Day commercials and candy displays at the grocery store). Since I am approaching this year in terms of themes to guide my intentions for living I decided that February would be LOVE… but not superficial love that you can buy in candy form. Real freaking love. Love for myself, love for my family, my life, my daughter and most of all my hubby. Continue reading

I’m an ENFP, Moon in Libra + Socially Intelligent gal… what are you?

personal development, character test, personality, personal development, what does your personality say about you
I love taking personality tests. I remember doing the quizzes in YM magazine as a teenager and sharing my results with girlfriends. It’s fun to get feedback on our unique perspectives, wants, needs and feelings. This is also why I love to read my horoscope and infuse the celestial guidance into making sense of my life. It’s nice to view my behaviors from other disciplines outside of my own brain. I recently took the 16 Personalities quiz and my results have helped both explain things about myself and at the same time have shaped some of the activities I have been seeking out as of late. I am ENFP. The Campaigner, the promoter, the idealist, the person with big ideas and the ability to see potential everywhere. It makes complete sense to me. It also helped me identify why its so frustrating for me to see a project trough to the nitty gritty detailed end, I am naturally more inclined to be the initiator, to get the project started, launch it from an idea to a real thing. I knew this about myself but it was cool to see it reflected back to me in the form of an analysis. Most of my close friends happen to be ENFP as well. Is that coincidence? Do we really flock with birds of the same feather? Apparently I do in my life! Although, Aaron’s results came back as INFJ (which is probably good for a spouse to be different, right?)

My thoughts on Personal Branding

I have been working on defining my personal offerings and “gift” for a year now. I’ve been doing this without focus and without a framework. And I’ve been doing it all wrong. I have been collecting ideas from the outside… looking at what other people with my credentials are doing. Or looking at “celebrities” in my field and trying to emulate what they may be offering to attract clients. I have been seeking the answers in the wrong places. The answers are never out there. They exist within us. Continue reading

How to re-discover your purpose!

Have you heard of the concept of Dharma? It’s the idea that we all have a purpose in life and our job is to figure it out and live it. I’ve over-simplified it for you- but for a deeper reading check out Deepok Chopra’s The Law of Dharma.

“Everyone has a purpose in life . . . a unique gift or special talent to give to others. And when we blend this unique talent with service to others, we experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.”-Deepok Chopra

Some of us lose sight of our life’s purpose Continue reading

11 Miles running in SNOW SHOES!

All moms know that finding time to exercise is a challenge. We also all know its important but sometimes it just isn’t a priority for a plethora of really good reasons. For me, I found the best way to get back into a regular exercise routine was to sign up for a race. Sometimes I need an outside goal to kick start my intrinsic motivation. This one happened to be running on snow-shoes.

I’m always up for a challenge, but I wouldn’t consider myself an extremist. I’ve done my fair share of hiking, running 5K races and I even ran my first 1/2 marathon in 2013. But now I live in Colorado and people here have a unique perspective on “challenge”.  This is the land of mountains and outdoor activities and everywhere you turn someone is most definitely climbing, biking, skiing, riding, running, jumping on every available bit of open space.  Continue reading

Its Now or Never

The New Year is always a time for reflection and renewal. With the start of a new year come new intentions and goals. 2014 brought so many life changes for me- I became a mother, a homeowner and also became unemployed. Motherhood has been nothing less than incredible- literally you would not believe all the changes to your body, heart and perspective. Although having a new baby is a wonderful, mind-blowing and miraculous gift-  it wasn’t a seamless transition Continue reading
