COVID-19, calm the mind, how to calm the mind, anxiety, stress relief
Living through a global pandemic is scary enough, but if you are also someone who deals with anxiety this could be the mother of all triggers. Its literally all the things: being quarantined at home with or without people, job loss, fear of getting sick, uncertainty about what “normal” life even looks like anymore. I have openly shared my struggle with anxiety and I find that knowing I am not alone is sometimes all I need to start to turn the anxiety around. But in case you need something more tangible here are 6 tools that have been working really well for me and I hope they bring you some relief as well:

A Working Relationship

marriage mountains outside couple
Being in relationship with another human being takes work. Being in a marriage with another human being takes even more work. Being in a marriage that also includes kids and working spouses is a whole other level of work! But its worth it and it can be done. Everything for me and my relationship with Aaron usually boils down to communication and expressing love. We are not perfect people and therefore we do not have a perfect relationship. Through the 13 years that we have been in each others lives we’ve gotten to know one another (quite well) and have realized how opposite we are! Our communication styles are 100% opposite, which makes our emotional expression completely different as well. We are both self-aware enough to recognize this which I’m grateful for- I know there are couples out there that are not as aware.

How to beat Overwhelm

natural mama wellness lifestyle hiking mountains natural birth
I feel overwhelmed a lot. Yes mostly because I am a #momofthree to kiddos under the age of 5 but there seems to be an undercurrent of overwhelm affecting tons of people these days. We have SO many things vying for our attention. We get beeped, pinged, dinged, buzzed, jingled, called, texted, emailed, etc more often than not. We are so connected to information that our response is often immediate, reactionary and impulsive. Not to mention there are so many options and choices we need to make constantly. This can wreak havoc on our nervous system and our psyche. Then throw in the demands and constant attention needed to govern children.

How to host a New Moon Circle

The New Moon is a time for inner reflection + intention setting. As cyclic beings we can be attuned to the cycles in nature and “New Moon gatherings” are a perfect way to infuse community + ceremony into life. Humans have always been attracted to the moon and its powerful energy, but women especially have had a strong connection to the energy of the moon. Female menstrual cycles are often referred to as “moon cycles” for good reason. Long ago, women’s menstrual cycles were in sync with the cycles of the moon with the new moon being a time to rest and shed while the full moon was ripe for ovulation. Research has shown that more womenย menstruateย during a new moon than any other phase, suggesting that normal cycles do sync to a lunar pattern! The moon has a powerful effect on us. It has the power to move the ocean tides, and as humans we are made of 70% water. We can work with the energy of the moon cycle to help us in our lives.

What is a New Moon Circle? Its a time for women to gather together in community to hold for space for one another, connect and to heal. The New Moon is the darkest part of the cycle, representing a time to look inward and set intentions that will come to “light” on the upside of the cycle when the moon is full and bright. It also marks the beginning of the cycle. In the quiet darkness it is a beautiful blank canvas to create something new. When we gather as a community to honor nature’s cycles and build our awareness of this process we can create powerful changes in our lives. Women especially can benefit from gathering since the feminine is the energy of creation. Together we have the ability to transform the world through our collective intention + attention on healing. There is no doubt a rising of consciousness in the world, the old paradigm of masculine patriarchy is being replaced by the softer, more collaborative + creative energy of the feminine.

Sleep Like a Baby

new mama wellness, fourth trimester, sleep habits, nursing, baby sleep
Ahhh, the old phrase- “sleep like a baby” is NOT TRUE! My baby will not sleep! it should be “sleep like a husband” because he is the only one getting all the sleep around here these days.
Its awesome swapping war stories with other mamas. I find myself having hilarious conversations with complete strangers on the playground, in line at the grocery store or at a random birthday party. The thread that bonds all of us is motherhood… being a mom is one of those gigs that forces you to get your shit together even when you are not ready at all! But the conversations I have are interesting because its incredible how fast you can connect with another human being on these universal moments in motherhood.

Get your shit together and run the house!

Let’s face it, its hard to be the one “On Duty” with little people all day. Its even harder, in my opinion, to do that AND run the house (i.e. groceries, cooking, cleaning, gardening, being a good spouse, planning, organizing, budgeting” .
Up until recently I was barely hanging on by a thread, and only when I had my third little critter was I thrust into the world of having my shit together. Sure, before I could whip a dinner together and made it to our activities on time but I wasn’t consistent and wasn’t always finding joy in it. After having the third baby, I had a mini-meltdown and realized if I was going to ever leave my house and have a life I needed to get my head in the game.

So Damn Tired: 6 Quick tips to boost energy levels!

Are you tired? Like so damn tired? I haven’t felt this level of tired really ever. I am running on fumes most times and by 2 pm I am usually ready for a nap! I’m a full time mama. I am with my kids all day every day + it is down right exhausting. I love it but I’m not going to pretend it isn’t freakin’ draining. Plus I’m peppering in pockets of time to build my essential oils business AND consult for my bff’s company in San Diego. I usually roll out of bed at 6:00 am and run run run until 9:00 pm then (if I’m not already passed out on the couch) watch a space documentary (yes we LOVE The Cosmos) on Netflix and crash.
